The Brazilian instant payment system, PIX, continues to demonstrate excellent adoption and near-unanimous approval across the country. According to a recent survey conducted by Ipsos-Ipec, 82% of Brazilians use the system regularly, while an overwhelming 92% approve of the payment method.
“The advance of PIX in the Brazilian financial market is remarkable, representing a rare consensus and massive acceptance by the population. This phenomenon reflects not only the effectiveness and practicality of the system but also the trust Brazilians place in innovative payment solutions,” highlighted Márcia Cavallari, Head of Public Affairs at Ipsos-Ipec.

Created and managed by the Central Bank of Brazil, PIX is nearing its sixth anniversary in 2026 with unprecedented levels of utilization. By offering instant, zero-cost transfers between individuals and institutions, the platform has been a major catalyst for financial inclusion and the broader digitalization of the Brazilian economy.
According to data from the Central Bank of Brazil, the payment system reached 200 million registered users in May 2026. This user base is composed of 175 million individuals and 25 million corporate entities.
The financial volume moving through the system is staggering. Monthly transaction values recently totaled R$ 3.4 trillion (approximately $660 billion USD), a figure that represents more than a quarter of Brazil’s annual GDP flowing through the system every single month. Looking at yearly figures, PIX processed transaction values in 2025 equating to more than three times the country’s total GDP, far surpassing traditional payment networks like Mastercard and Visa.
This dominance is further contextualized by recent figures from the Brazilian Association of Credit Card and Service Companies (Abecs). Traditional payment methods, such as credit and debit card transactions, generated R$ 1.1 trillion ($215 billion USD) in the first quarter of 2026. In stark contrast, PIX transacted R$ 9.5 trillion ($1.8 trillion USD) over the exact same period, an impressive 8.6 times the volume of traditional cards.
