Malaysian energy giant Petronas is gearing up for an expansion of its retail operations nationwide. With approximately 200 Petronas gas stations currently in operation across Brazil, the company expects to reach 300 units by December 2026 and hit the 1,000-station milestone within the next four years.
The expansion is in partnership with the Argenta Group, whic plans to drive this growth by converting existing branded gas stations to its ecosystem, leveraging the technology and global expertise of the Petronas brand.
The most recent conversion took place in Caxias do Sul, Rio Grande do Sul, where a unit of SIM Rede began operating under the Petronas flag. SIM Rede is one of the largest operators in southern Brazil and a subsidiary of the Argenta Group
This move is part of a broader strategy led by NEXTA, the ecosystem company tasked with expanding Petronas stations nationwide, and represents another step in building a national footprint rooted in partnerships, operational excellence, and a long-term vision.
“Reaching 200 stations confirms that we are building a solid operation based on consistent partnerships and a differentiated value proposition for dealers,” said Ian Dobereiner, the executive heading NEXTA.
“The Caxias do Sul unit represents the concept we want to scale across Brazil, bringing together technology, services, and a comprehensive consumer experience.” he added
The choice of Caxias do Sul was highly strategic. Beyond the region’s economic significance, the unit was selected for its track record of operational excellence established by SIM Rede, making it an ideal benchmark to showcase the full Petronas concept in the country.
“Each conversion represents more than just a change of brand. It materializes a strategy built over recent years, based on the integration of different competencies to expand our capacity to deliver solutions to the market,” stated Neco Argenta, President of the Argenta Group
“This is how Argenta promotes development: by preserving the best of each business and forging partnerships that broaden our operational potential.” Neco Argenta added.
The expansion of Petronas stations represents one of the moves that materialize Argenta’s strategy to broaden its national presence through specialized businesses working in an integrated way.
